Meet Our Founder and CEO: Renee Nightingale

Hi, I’m Renee, the creator and inventor of the OG Ponytail!

My journey to creating the OG Ponytail was deeply personal, a story of struggling with insecurities about my hair and finding a solution that worked for me, and ultimately, for others. I’ve always dreamed of having thick, luscious hair, but as someone with thin, curly hair, I often felt like I was missing that vital piece. I spent years trying everything, from clip-in extensions to chemical straightening treatments, keratin smoothing, and even the stereotypical wrap-around ponytail. While these options seemed promising, they always came with their own set of frustrations.

The wrap-around ponytail, in particular, became my nemesis. The metal prong would dig into my scalp, causing pain, and no matter how carefully I wore it, the ponytail would often fall out with even the slightest amount of movement. I found myself walking cautiously, afraid of the inevitable slip. And worst of all? That one "girlfriend", more like a frenemy, who would tug at my hair just to watch me squirm, leaving me feeling mortified and insecure as it came loose. I knew there had to be a better way.

In 2015, I set out to create my own solution, a ponytail that would look and feel natural, while giving me the confidence I had always longed for. That’s when the OG Ponytail was born.

I wanted to touch my hair and feel as if I had lush locks, and not feel fake or fret that my hair piece was going to fall out. The OG Ponytail is about embracing who you are, feeling empowered, and saying goodbye to those old hair insecurities.
